1996 HT FRAME ~ 17" 23 inch top tube. Comes with 8 speed XTR front derailleur with mount specific to this frame's fat tubing. This is a collector's frame in excellent, like new condition. It was ridden for about 25 miles in 1996, just to see how it handled. It was then re-assembled as a showroom art project and hung on the wall, where it hung for ten years. Recently a few of the high end parts on the bike were sold, so the the frame was stripped completely. This frame could be the best hardtail frame ever built out of aluminum. It is LIGHT (3.1 pounds), has fantastic mountain geometry and has a very unique racey feel to it. This frame from the first and last run from Answer/Easton/Manitou, the very year Doug Bradbury sold out to Answer Products. The welds are beautiful, the CNC milled frame jokes are works of art and the tubing is exotic, fat and thin walled. When I asked Doug about the sell-out, he said, "It is a win-win. I cannot weld worth a damn. Answer's welders are top notch, so the bike is as good as it is going to get now." And it was, and this one still is! Answer/Manitou then proceeded to find out that in order to sell the forks to frame manufacturers, it is best not to build a frame that is better than their customers. Sadly, Manitou frames were discontinued in 1997. There HT and FS frames were once the very best mountain bike frames available. This HT frame is as good as it gets for a collector, but it could still be built up as a racer to compete at the highest level. We'll throw in the original fork, a matching 1996 Manitou--in near perfect cosmetic condition, but needing seals and oil. SEE IT ~ SEE DETAIL ~ SEE DETAIL

COLLECTORS WHEELS

Bontrager/Ibis/DT built by Lee Bridgers. These wheels are history, examples of the very first in light weight custom modified designs for mountain bikes from Keith Bontrager and Ibis. These were built in 1986 from Hi-E hubs with custom riveted flanges by Ibis to compensate for the additional torque required for mountain climbing, and double eyelet Mavic road rims cut down to 26" by Keith Bontrager. Comes with a custom 7 speed freewheel and Ringle twisting ti skewers. The set is in excellent condition with some brake surface wear but otherwise worthy of a lot more miles. A perfect wheelset to grace a collector's Cunningham, Ibis, Ritchey or Potts from the mid 80's. SEE THESE WHEELS
